Actual blower performance and sizing depend on several factors, including: Number and size of spa jets Water depth Length of the air supply line Number of plumbing elbows and fittings Pipe diameter Air-hole configuration Distance between the blower and spa Total system back pressure The blower should be sized according to the complete plumbing system rather than horsepower alone. A system with long plumbing runs, numerous fittings, or greater water depth may require a larger blower. Installation Information The Hayward SPB152 should be installed and serviced by a qualified pool or spa professional. Important installation requirements include: Confirm that the electrical supply matches the blower’s 230V nameplate rating. Follow all applicable local electrical codes and National Electrical Code requirements. Use properly sized copper electrical conductors. Install GFCI protection where required. Install the blower in a dry, well-ventilated location. Maintain adequate airflow around the motor to prevent overheating. Install the blower at least 2 feet above ground level. Position the blower at least 5 feet horizontally from the spa water. Install the blower at least 1 foot above the spa’s maximum water level. Use nonmetallic plumbing between the blower and spa. Use a 2-inch supply line from the blower toward the spa. Protect the blower from sprinklers, chemicals, debris, flooding, and standing water. Install the check valve vertically in an accessible location above the water level. Use a Hartford loop when required by the plumbing layout. Do not glue the blower directly to the supply pipe. Professional installation is strongly recommended to ensure correct wiring, blower sizing, plumbing configuration, and water-backflow protection.
