Whole Plant Tincture: Hawthorn

Crataegus spp Hawthorn contains bioflavonoids, selenium, and phytoestrogens. All parts are uplifting to the spirit and strengthen the emotional heart. After sitting with Hawthorn, I feel more aware that an open heart is a beautiful thing, and upon closer inspection, those formidable thorns along the branches and stems remind me to be cautious and discerning. Hawthorn haws, or berries, are most often enjoyed as infusions, tinctures, and teas.  I use fresh or dried berries with 100 proof vodka. These tinctures sit for at least 6 weeks, preferably one year.
