Hatching Eggs: Easter Egger, Merry Manor Location

Easter Eggers are our all-time best-selling breed and are considered one of the best chicken breeds for beginners! Easter Eggers are friendly, great layers of large eggs in shades of blue and green*. Their plumage can vary from stark white to dark brown and black, from buff tones to blue to splash–and anything in between. Their smaller body size gives them an advantage in the heat, and their small pea comb means they do well in cold, too, because they are not as susceptible to frostbite. We like to think that the pea comb is linked not only to the blue egg laying gene, but also to the "sweetness" gene, as well, because of their tendency toward friendly, social behavior. *Please note that while Easter Eggers chiefly lay blue or green eggs, a small percentage will lay another egg color, including tinted, brown or even pinkish. Each hen will give ONE egg color. The egg color will not change from one egg being laid to another. For example, if your hen has just laid a green egg, it will lay a green egg its entire life. Other hatcheries may call this breed "Ameraucanas," "Americanas" or sometimes "Araucanas," but they're really Easter Eggers. We are one of only a few places that provide true Ameraucanas. If you are uncomfortable with staggered hatches, you may want to place your orders separately or contact us for further instructions. We are happy to help! Will the post office deliver the eggs to my door?  Shipping labels on our hatching egg boxes indicate that the post office should "CALL ON ARRIVAL." This reduces the handling and extremes of temperature the eggs experience en route to you and can ultimately increase the viability of your eggs. However, this information is often not seen by the carrier, and eggs are delivered to the physical shipping address on the label anyway. If it is imperative to you that the eggs not be delivered directly to your shipping address, you can change the ship-to address on your order to the address of your post office of choice, attn: 'your name.' If you choose to do this, make sure to include a valid phone number so the post office can reach you when the box arrives.
