The matelassé achieves a beautiful texture without any batting.  Why Matelassé? The term "Matelassé refers to a double cloth woven on a jacquard loom, particularly in clothing, upholstery, and bedding. It is marked by raised designs created with a puckered or quilted appearance which is achieved by the interlacing of the threads during the weaving process.
