This kit adds bolt-on handrails to an existing step stool, giving workers something to hold on to while stepping up or down. There is no need to buy a new step stool to get handrail support — this retrofit accessory connects directly to a 1-step poly step stool that is already in use. The SPN-1-YL-HR-RF ships with an approximate weight of 27 lbs and is covered by a 90-day limited warranty. The handrails feature a safety yellow finish that matches the base step stool. This retrofit handrail kit is designed for facilities that want to improve step stool safety on their existing 1-step nestable poly step stools without replacing the whole unit. Features and Benefits The handrails in this kit are made from steel for strong, dependable support. They bolt directly onto compatible 1-step nestable poly step stool models, and all mounting hardware is included. The safety yellow color keeps the unit highly visible in busy work areas, helping workers and nearby personnel notice the step stool more easily. Once installed, the handrails give workers a place to grip while stepping up, stepping down, or standing on the stool. Even on a single-step unit, having a grip point makes a noticeable difference in balance and confidence — especially when workers are reaching overhead or carrying items. The handrail height also allows the step stool to be pushed or pulled into position, which cuts down on bending and twisting when moving the stool between locations. The base 1-step nestable poly step stool supports a 500 lb. uniform capacity. The step measures 19-7/8 inches by 19-7/8 inches. Anti-slip tape on the step surface helps provide secure footing. Because this is a retrofit accessory, facilities can upgrade their existing step stools rather than ordering new pre-assembled units with handrails. This makes the handrail kit a practical and cost-effective way to improve safety on equipment already in the field. Applications The retrofit handrail kit is a strong fit for any workplace where workers use 1-step nestable poly step stools and need handrail support for safer access. Common environments include: Warehouses and distribution centers Stockrooms and retail backrooms Maintenance and repair areas Production and assembly floors Commercial kitchens and food service areas Hotels and hospitality facilities Municipal and government buildings Shipping and packaging areas Adding handrails to a 1-step stool gives workers a grip point that helps with balance and stability. This is especially important in fast-paced settings where workers step on and off stools many times during a shift. Even a single step up can lead to slips or loss of balance when workers are focused on reaching, lifting, or organizing items above them. Nestable poly step stools provide lightweight, high-visibility access across many types of commercial and industrial workspaces. The retrofit design lets a facility keep its current step stools in service while still making a meaningful improvement to worker safety and comfort. Selection Assistance Barron Equipment and Overhead Door offers guidance to help customers choose the right step stool accessory for their setup. This retrofit handrail kit is designed only for 1-step nestable poly step stool models in the SPN series. It is not compatible with 2-step or 3-step models, which each have their own version of the handrail kit (SPN-2-YL-HR-RF and SPN-3-YL-HR-RF). For teams that need rolling portability, the retrofit caster portability kit (SPN-1-PO-RF) is available for the 1-step model. If you want handrails and casters combined into one purchase, the All Options Accessory Kit (SPN-1-YL-AOK) bundles handrails and casters into one package for convenience. Note that back rail kits are available for 2-step and 3-step models but are not offered for the 1-step configuration. Customers can reach out through the website to compare options, confirm compatibility, or get help choosing the right accessory for their step stools.
