Hancock Wallpaper (Green)

Damask patterns have a long and curious history. Originally developed in China on silk, they were later interpreted on Italian looms. Early European versions often incorporated stylized fruits, vegetables and flowers, which later, owing to the efficiency of the jacquard loom and changing tastes, were usually substituted for wildly abstracted acanthus leaves. Bunny’s Hancock paper channels the earlier European style of overt fruits and leaves but in the manner of a handblocked-paper, achieved in this case by varying the opacity of the ink. Part of Bunny's Arcadia collection for Lee Jofa.
