The Halco Laser Pro 190 is the Australian lure maker's bluewater trolling minnow, and the 7 ft diving version is the one we stock for Southern California boats. Put it in the spread for tuna, dorado and wahoo, or drag it through the yellowtail zone when the surface bite goes quiet and you want something swimming a few feet down. Built to be trolled hard Halco molds the bib from the same polycarbonate used in bulletproof glass and locks it into the body without glue, so it stays put at speed and keeps swimming true whether you troll slow or fast. The hook hangers and tow point are formed as part of the lure body rather than screwed in, and the lure comes rigged with #4/0 3xx trebles. Speed range and how to run it The Laser Pro 190 DD floats at rest and swims from 3 to 11 knots, so it works behind a private boat idling along or a sportfisher running at speed. Halco puts the sweet spot for pelagics at about 6.5 knots, staggered 10 to 50 meters (roughly 30 to 165 feet) behind the boat. The DD bib takes the lure down to about 7 feet. Colors we stock Seven patterns in the 7 ft diver: Fluoro Green, Liquid Lime, Blue Fluoro, Tickled Pink, Purple Black, Bonito and Pilchard. Bonito and Pilchard are the natural baitfish looks for clear water. The fluoro and pink patterns show up in green water, low light and chop. Halco earned its spot in our hard-bait case when the Max 130 became the go-to tuna troller on the long-range boats. The Laser Pro is the bibbed diver from the same factory, well made and sensibly priced.
