The machine here plays the role of providing support to the back and guides squatting exercises. You stand on a tilted platform with your back against a padded board and your shoulders tucked under two pads. One squat down by bending knees and then push back up. Because the machine is on a fixed track, usually at a 45° angle, it slides up and down smoothly. What are linear Hack Squats?  Linear hack squat machines move straight up and down on rails. Other hack squat machines may move at a fixed angle or can be adjusted. The linear hack squat machine is beneficial because it has a more predictable force direction, easier depth control, and less stress on the knees and hips. This makes linear hacks especially popular for hypertrophy-focused training and muscle growth.  What is the Hack Squat machine good for?  The hack squat machine is especially useful when the goal is to stress the legs directly, without the technical and balance demands of free-weight squats. Here’s why it works so well.  Quad-focused leg development: while squatting, most weight shifts on the quadriceps.  High-volume leg training: Because the machine limits balance and coordination demands, you can perform more sets and reps without full-body fatigue becoming the limiting factor.  Lifters who struggle with squat mobility: it reduces stress on the lower back and minimizes mobility restrictions at the hips and ankles. This allows lifters with limited squat mechanics to still train their legs hard and effectively. FLEX Fitness Hack Squat Is the Hack Squat for glutes or quads? The hack squat machine is primarily good for quads (front thigh muscles), but also helps in developing glutes (buttock muscles). On the hack squat machine, by keeping the torso upright and feet low, the quads are developed. Feet higher & wider means there will be more glute involvement. Deep range of motion increases glute contribution, but with that, quads also get developed. In the end, the hack squat is a particularly quad-friendly machine, according to its mechanism.  Are Hack Squats Better Than Squats? The correct answer has to be "none," because both have different techniques and target the muscles differently. Hack squats are better if your goal is isolating the legs, reducing lower-back load, maximizing quad tension, and maintaining consistent depth with every repetition during long-term workouts.  Barbell squats, in which the barbell is placed on the upper shoulder, and then squatting is performed. They are better if your goal is to develop full-body strength, athletic-like muscle growth, and balance development.  Are Hack Squats Better Than Leg Press? None of them is better; most of the time, both are performed, as they have different outcomes, but both contribute to strengthening lower-body muscles. The hack squat is performed with upright posture and more knee use, helping with a strong quad stretch, and feels more “squat-like.”  Whereas the leg press is performed in a seated position, more hip involvement is needed; it is easier to overload but has less knee stress for some professional athletic lifters.  Hack Squat Machines: Who Should Use Them? Hack squat machines are ideal for: Beginners  Bodybuilders  and Lifters  People facing lower-back fatigue Someone who wants to develop quad size and detail What is the Hack Squat Machine Weight?  When people ask about hack squat weight, they often mistake it for the weight of the machine. Most commercial hack squat sled weigh between 75 lbs and 105 lbs (approx. 35–48 kg). In case you are talking about the lifting, and if you are new to the machine, the best answer is to start with the empty sled. Once you can do 10–12 clean reps with the empty machine, try adding "small wheels" (10 lb or 25 lb plates). The hack squat machine is not a shortcut; it’s a specialist tool.
