Game Description .hack//MUTATION continues the layered narrative of the .hack saga on PlayStation 2, deepening the mystery behind the comas plaguing players of The World. You again step into the role of Kite, carrying choices and power from the first entry as you press forward against ever-escalating threats. With the administrators of the game watching closely and cryptic messages surfacing, each server you log into could hold new secrets or dangers. The gameplay refines the “game within a game” illusion: the desktop hub returns with BBS posts, e-mails, and news updates that reveal clues to mysteries inside The World. As battles intensify, Kite and allies use enhanced Data Drain and Gate Hacking mechanics to navigate corrupted monsters and locked zones across multiple servers. The second chapter introduces stronger AI control of party members, expanded item systems, and fresh playable areas inaccessible in Part 1. Packaged with a special .hack//Liminality DVD episode that complements the in-game narrative, MUTATION strengthens the cross-media storytelling ambition of the franchise. This installment connects plot threads from the first game, introduces new characters from the .hack//SIGN anime adaptation, and builds toward the next arc in the four-part series. Gameplay Features Continue your campaign as Kite with saves and stats imported from INFECTION. Use refined Data Drain and Gate Hacking techniques across multiple servers. Explore richly detailed dungeons, hidden zones, and newly unlocked terrain types. Monitor BBS posts, in-game e-mails, and newsfeeds to uncover critical clues and keywords. Command AI-driven allies or issue direct orders for strategic real-time combat control. Includes bonus .hack//Liminality DVD (Episode 2) expanding the story beyond gameplay. Historical Trivia or Fun Fact .hack//MUTATION launched in 2003 as the second entry in the acclaimed .hack tetralogy, continuing the groundbreaking experiment that merged RPG gameplay with anime storytelling. It marked the first time that characters from the .hack//SIGN series appeared directly within the games, bridging television and console storylines in one universe. Players who carried save data from INFECTION enjoyed a sense of narrative continuity and progression rarely seen on the PlayStation 2. The inclusion of the companion .hack//Liminality DVD further enhanced its collector appeal, making MUTATION a centerpiece for fans who followed the saga across multiple forms of media.
