This iconic aircraft set a remarkable record, completing 1,454 flights and logging 3,967.5 flight hours – more than any other SR-71 in history. Housed in a titanium tonneau case, each watch features a dial made from the aircraft’s inner engine nacelle exhaust ejector titanium alloys. Combined with unique design elements, the Habu captures the essence and spirit of this aviation marvel. A Decade of Expertise The SR-71 Blackbird is the fastest spy plane ever and a truly iconic marvel of engineering. At REC, we exist at the intersection of two worlds: the love and nerdiness for iconic vehicles, and the passion for watches. Naturally, the SR-71 has been at the top of our wish list for years. For more than a decade, we’ve been honoring icons, transforming the DNA of history’s finest machines into timepieces. Our track record includes Ayrton Senna’s F1 Lotus 98T, the legendary Porsche 956, and the first production GT40 car ever – alongside drift cars, spy planes, WWII aircraft, movie cars, off-roaders, and famous sports cars. Sourced through Daniel Freeman – Chief of Metals Technology for the 9th Reconnaissance Wing – the titanium is traced directly to SR-71B 61-7956. With decades of experience across the Blackbird, U-2, and KC-135Q, Freeman ensured precise authenticity. Inside, a black-coated manual movement powers a 3-hand display, date, and power reserve indicator. With a 12.3mm profile, sapphire crystal, and 47mm lug-to-lug, this Cold War-inspired timepiece is engineered for both resilience and precision. In Its Natural Habitat Stealth Meets Wrist Its 40mm Grade 2 titanium tonneau case is shaped for comfort and balance, making it surprisingly light despite its aerospace roots. The curved sapphire back, layered dial, and FKM/Kevlar strap all work together to create a piece that sits securely, comfortably, and with unmistakable presence. It’s a watch shaped by the SR-71’s aerodynamic principles, and you feel that every moment you wear it. Aviation Legend SR-71 Blackbird The SR-71 was engineered to fly faster than a bullet and higher than any missile could track – a Cold War marvel that rewrote aviation records without ever firing a shot. Designed by Skunk Works legend Kelly Johnson, its titanium body and radar-defying shape pushed human and machine limits alike. Flying at Mach 3+ and over 85,000 feet, the Blackbird remained untouchable. Its design wasn’t just beautiful – it was driven by necessity. Every contour and rivet minimized radar return and heat stress. Inside, state-of-the-art sensors captured intelligence deep in hostile territory. Pilots called it alive – a machine that expanded midflight and adapted to atmospheric extremes. Though retired in 1999, it still holds world records for speed and altitude. The SR-71 endures not as nostalgia, but as aerospace’s ultimate north star. This rare B-model trained generations of elite pilots to master the unforgiving realities of high-speed reconnaissance. Equipped with a dual cockpit, it logged over 3,400 flight hours – more than any other Blackbird – and later served with NASA as a high-speed research platform. Taking flight in 1965, Aircraft No. 61-7956 played a critical support role in the SR-71 program. It was not built for combat missions – its job was to prepare others for them. The only SR-71B variant ever built, it featured a raised second cockpit that allowed instructors to monitor and guide pilot trainees during live sorties. By 1982, it had flown more than 1,000 sorties and remained active until the program’s cancellation in 1990. Reinstated for NASA research, it continued pushing aerospace boundaries until its final flight on October 19, 1997. With over 3,400 logged hours and countless lives trained under its wings, 61-7956 became the most photographed and most flown Blackbird of them all. Read less Read more Capt. Dave Fruehauf and Capt. Each timepiece features titanium from aircraft No. 61-7956’s engine nacelle exhaust ejectors. These “turkey feathers” once managed supersonic afterburners at Mach 3+. Now, they form the heart of the Habu’s lower dial. The turkey feathers were forged from Grade 6 titanium alloy, chosen for its durability, weldability, and high-temperature resistance. These parts endured continuous stress in supersonic flight. Every piece used in the Habu bears the scars – and the story – of Cold War reconnaissance at the edge of space. Limited to 1,372 units, it’s lower dial is forged from original SR-71 titanium and driven by a manual Sellita SW270-1 M movement. The 40mm Grade 2 titanium tonneau case is shaped for stealth and comfort, housing a layered dial inspired by the SR-71’s exhaust and cockpit gauges. A power reserve at 6 o’clock nods to the TEB throttle system that ignited the jet’s afterburners at high altitudes. Red-striped FKM rubber with Kevlar inlays echoes “no step” markings on the airframe. The exhibition case-back reveals the manual Sellita SW270-1 M through curved sapphire. From dial to strap, the Habu captures the precision, audacity, and aerospace legacy of the world’s fastest jet.
