Gustav Bed

The Gustav Bed revives the most romantic chapter of Stickley's early years: the inlaid Mission furniture that Harvey Ellis brought to the workshop in 1903. Across the crown of the quartersawn oak headboard runs a slender band of marquetry — stylized hearts and a blossom motif, hand-set in contrasting woods — framed by clean posts and the kind of unadorned lines Gustav Stickley built his name on. It is quiet from across the room and rewarding up close, exactly how the originals worked. The low footboard keeps the profile open and modern, while a dual-height cleat system lets you set the platform deck to suit your mattress — panels are included, so no box spring is needed. Like every Mission piece, it is bench-made in Manlius, New York from solid quartersawn white oak that shows its ray-flake figure in every finish.
