They should be tested during training before race day to ensure digestive tolerance. Riders sensitive to concentrated carbohydrates should take with water to reduce the risk of stomach discomfort. Fit & Use Signals Good fit for cyclists, runners, and endurance athletes Good fit for rides longer than 60–90 minutes Good fit if you struggle to eat solid food during efforts Not a fit for low-intensity short workouts Not a fit if you prefer whole-food fueling only We recommend these mainly for rides over 90 minutes or high-intensity interval work. Most riders underfuel, especially on hot days, and that’s when performance drops. Common mistake: people take gels without water and complain about stomach upset. These should be followed with a few solid sips of water. Another mistake: waiting until you’re already bonking. These work best when taken before energy crashes. Raspberry Lemonade is generally well tolerated—less syrupy taste than some other flavors. We see best results when riders: Take one 5–10 minutes before hard efforts Then every 40–45 minutes consistently Pair with hydration mix if riding over 2 hours This is not a magic performance product. It’s a carbohydrate delivery system. It works if fueling timing is consistent. If someone is riding under an hour, they probably don’t need it. If someone is trying to lose weight, we usually talk through fueling strategy before recommending gels. For longer gravel events and fondos, these are reliable because they’re easy to open and carry in jersey pockets. Shelf stable. Don’t leave in extreme heat for extended periods. Riders who complain about “gut rot” usually either: Took too many too fast Didn’t drink enough water Haven’t trained their gut for carbs This is a safe, proven fueling option. Not flashy, just effective.
