Illuminated Celtic Cross

Found throughout Ireland, Scotland and the Celtic Isles, the Celtic Cross is possibly one of the most well-known symbols of early Celtic Christianity. However, these crosses were not designed by Christians, they were actually first created and used by pagans. The pagans worshiped the sun as the center of their existence, so they designed a symbol that embodies this. The circle in the center of the Celtic Cross represents the ancient sun god, and the arms represent the four seasons or directions. During the great conversion of many pagans to Christianity, the Celtic Cross was adopted as a Christian symbol and taught the meaning of the circle to represent Jesus Christ, the center of Christianity. Symbolically it is said that the Celtic Cross represents a human desire to understand life and death. Whatever your beliefs, our beautiful antique silver-plated cross with gold details is a lovely piece of Celtic history.
