Thelesperma filifolium (Asteraceae) An erect, slender annual or short lived perennial native to the central and southern portions of the United States. A very drought tolerant species that produces a slender taproot. The multi-branching stems 1 to 3 feet in height are covered with narrow threadlike leaves. The urn-shaped buds droop prior to opening. Golden-yellow 1½ inch flowers surround a reddish-brown center. Many butterfly species use this plant as a primary nectar source. Requires full sun in dry, sandy, clay or calcareous soils. Self-sows freely. Deer do not seem to find this plant palatable. Suggested Use: Mixes, rock gardens, xeriscapes, butterfly habitats. Miscellaneous: Does not transplant well.
