The Green Toilet 330 is a highly unique and versatile composting toilet system for onsite, off-grid use — without any water or electricity. The Green Toilet 330 comes with two very special composting containers (also called bins or tanks). The containers are used one at a time underneath the toilet, so that all waste simply falls into the container below. Inside the container, a special double base separates excess urine from the solid waste — that is, the urine that the compost cannot naturally absorb and evaporate through the system’s ventilation. When a container fills up with solid waste (after months of full-time, everyday use), it is replaced with the empty spare container included in the package. While one container is in use, the other is set aside outdoors to continue composting. By the time the second container has also filled up, the first one should already be finished composting — and the two containers switch places again. There are several advantages to a swappable bin system. First of all, it makes servicing the composting toilet quick and easy — there’s no need to handle raw waste. All you have to do is pull out the full container, seal it with the closed lid, and set it aside to finish composting. Secondly, the capacity can be extended for full-time everyday use by a large family or for public / commercial use with additional spare containers available separately. For example, in public restroom use it is not uncommon to have 3–4 Green Toilet 330 containers per restroom space. The history of the Green Toilet dates back to the early 1990s.
