Guanyin, also known as Avalokiteshvara, is a bodhisattva of compassion and mercy in Chinese Buddhism. The name Guanyin translates to "Perceiver of all Sounds" in Chinese, referring to the bodhisattva's ability to hear the prayers and cries for help of all people, regardless of age, gender, or social class. Guanyin is depicted as an enlightened being who could have entered nirvana but chose to stay on Earth to help mortals attain enlightenment. Her visage has been carved into green jade and set into an adjustable sterling silver ring.
