GREAT LEAPS READING PACKAGE - ELEMENTARY EDITION (GRADES K-5)

This is a research and evidence-based, structured intervention designed to help struggling readers develop essential literacy skills. This program provides a fast, effective, and engaging approach to reading success through 15-minute daily lessons one-on-one with an instructor focused on developing phonics skills, fluency, and comprehension while eliminating high-frequency word errors.  FOR STUDENTS: Ages 6 through 11 who are below the 5th-grade independent reading level but have mastered the alphabet and letter sounds in isolation. INSTRUCTION: One instructor works with one student, 15 minutes a day, three to 5 days per week.  For enhanced data tracking or the ability to work remotely with your students, see our Digital Reading Program. It is the same research and evidence-based intervention with features to improve the administrator, instructor and student experience.  INSTRUCTORS Affordable – One package and instructor can be used with multiple students for multiple years. Adaptable – Great Leaps can be implemented easily as a parent or in an entire district, utilizing paraprofessionals, volunteers, or even mentorship programs with older students. Data-Driven – Equal ratio charts are kept to gauge student progress. These can be used to predict future student growth and help greatly in writing IEP's or discussing student progress over time.  Efficient – Implementation takes just 15 minutes a day, 3 or more days a week. Simple – Great Leaps can be implemented by anyone who can read fluently.  STUDENTS Fun Stories – Great Leaps uses high-interest, age-appropriate material that makes reading fun. Attention Span – Working just 15 minutes a day keeps students more focused and engaged. Improved Confidence – Individualized attention and positive reinforcement build confidence and motivation. Academic Growth – Learning to read improves student performance in all classes Behavior – Academic confidence often leads to a decrease in referrals and an increase in in-class engagement. Fluency – Research has shown 2 years of growth per year on average when implementing Great Leaps with struggling readers in school. PROGRAM Phonics, High-Frequency Word Phrases, and Stories exercises get increasingly more difficult, efficiently taking the student from their current level to a 5th grade or higher independent reading level. The package contains an instructor and student manual to allow the instructor and student to sit across from one another, allowing the student to focus on their own copy while the instructor marks errors and follows the student's reading. PROCEDURE The instructor administers 3 one-minute timings: one each in Phonics, High-Frequency Word Phrases, and Stories. Words read per minute and errors are charted on an equal ratio chart after each timing. Comprehension Development Questions are asked to spark discussion around the story and build the students' expressive language abilities in addition to their comprehension of the text. PROVEN TEACHING METHODS Great Leaps is based on the principles of precision teaching, and the behavioral science of reading. Great Leaps uses immediate Correction when errors are made. Great Leaps uses modeling small sections where the student has struggled, using the neurological impress method. Great Leaps utilizes constant positive reinforcement to build confidence and motivation. Every effort has been made to eliminate punishers. RESEARCH & EVIDENCE-BASED Great Leaps is aligned with the science of reading and utilizes precision teaching methods from applied behavior analysis.
