Grape agate is a unique and relatively rare form of chalcedony, a mineral composed of microscopic crystals of quartz. It is found in the Mamuju area of West Sulawesi, Indonesia, and is known for its striking purple coloration and resemblance to clusters of grapes. The grape-like formations are created by a process known as botryoidal growth, in which the mineral forms rounded, globular shapes resembling grape clusters. The purple coloration is caused by manganese, which can create a range of hues from pale lavender to deep violet.
