Gran Centenario Tequila Anejo

Gran Centenario Tequila Añejo is a polished, mature tequila that brings together the depth of barrel aging and the smooth, approachable style that has made Gran Centenario one of the category’s most recognizable names. The brand says it is crafted from 100% agave and aged for approximately 16 months in new American oak barrels, creating a spirit of “unparalleled smoothness and quality.” Gran Centenario also highlights its softer, sweeter, more complex character and notes that it earned a Double Gold Medal at the 2019 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Process & Profile Gran Centenario Añejo is made from carefully selected blue agave and aged in new American oak. The official product page specifies an aging period of about 16 months, giving the tequila enough time to pick up richer oak-driven character while still preserving the agave at its core. It is bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof). On the nose, the brand describes the tequila as slightly fruity with subtle aromas of cooked agave and toasted almonds. That aromatic profile gives it a softer, warmer opening than a blanco or younger reposado, while keeping the style elegant rather than overly woody. On the palate, Gran Centenario Añejo is described as smooth with a hint of sweetness, showing notes of cooked agave, toasted almonds, cloves, and vanilla. Gran Centenario’s broader family page also adds a richer flavor frame of toasted oak, chocolate, caramel, and nuts, reinforcing the idea of an añejo that leans rounded, mellow, and dessert-toned without becoming heavy. The finish is officially described as soft and complex with pleasant aromatics and a balanced profile. That combination of sweetness, gentle spice, and polished oak makes it especially appealing for drinkers who want a tequila with mature character but not an overly aggressive barrel imprint. What makes Gran Centenario Tequila Añejo especially compelling is the way it balances 100% agave authenticity, longer oak aging, and broad drinkability. It has the depth and richer barrel notes añejo drinkers expect, but it still carries the easy smoothness that has long defined the Gran Centenario style. For shoppers looking for a dependable, heritage-rooted añejo that works both for sipping and upscale gifting, this is a particularly strong bottle. That broader positioning is an inference based on the brand’s official style description, aging details, and tasting profile. Serve it neat or over a large cube to let the vanilla, almond, oak, and cooked agave notes fully open. Gran Centenario’s official product page also features the Golden Angel cocktail using Añejo, showing that it can move comfortably into more refined tequila cocktails as well.
