Giuseppe Quintarelli 2018 Rosso Ca' Del Merlo IGT

A standout expression of Veneto red wine artistry, the 2018 Rosso Ca’ del Merlo is deeply layered yet refined, combining rich dark fruit, vibrant acidity, and savory complexity. This Quintarelli bottling transcends typical Valpolicella profiles — showing extraordinary poise, texture, and aging potential that make it both immediately compelling and worthy of medium-term cellar attention. Origins & Craftsmanship Produced in Valpolicella (Veneto), Italy by the legendary house of Giuseppe Quintarelli, Rosso Ca’ del Merlo is crafted from a distinctive blend of indigenous and classic varieties — led by Corvina and Corvinone, with Rondinella, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and a faction of other traditional grapes such as Nebbiolo, Croatina, and Sangiovese. The Quintarelli family manages vineyards with meticulous care, favoring low yields and traditional vine work. The 2018 vintage follows Quintarelli’s signature approach: traditional fermentation with indigenous yeasts, followed by a Ripasso-style second fermentation on Amarone marc to amplify structure and depth. This is succeeded by years of maturation in large Slavonian oak casks, which fosters intricate textural richness and integration without overt wood dominance, preserving grape purity and nuanced complexity. Critics Reviews & Scores Vinous — 95 Points Critics praised the 2018 Rosso Ca’ del Merlo as a supremely elegant and refined rendition of this classic. The wine opens with an engaging and savory aromatic profile — featuring dried Mediterranean herbs, geranium, and citrus-tinged wild strawberries — unfolding into depths of ripe red and blue fruits underscored by crisp mineral tones. A core of vibrant acidity lifts the fruit, while floral accents and hints of lavender provide distinct nuance. The finish is long, floral, and persistent — cementing this vintage as one of remarkable poise and balance within the Quintarelli lineup.
