Gitanes Cigarettes

Playful, clever, and utterly French, this original 1954 lithograph by Raymond Savignac brings the iconic Gitanes cigarette brand to life with his signature wit and minimalism. A stylish gypsy woman, rendered in bold blocks of blue, green, and yellow, strikes a confident pose as smoke curls from her elegantly held cigarette, a perfect embodiment of mid-century French design. Savignac, one of France’s most celebrated poster artists, was known for transforming everyday products into characters with humor and personality. Here, he reimagines the Gitanes muse as both consumer and symbol, seamlessly blending product and persona. The simplicity of form and color makes the composition instantly memorable, a hallmark of Savignac’s timeless style. Printed for Régie Française des Tabacs, this lithograph captures the golden age of French advertising, when wit, style, and design sophistication converged. A brilliant piece of visual storytelling, it’s a must-have for collectors of postwar European posters and fans of Savignac’s spirited genius.
