The Book of Tunes for Sight-Reading, Volume 1 (Bass Clef)

Composer(s): John M. Feierabend; Chris Anne Powers This collection of more than 300 tunes compiled from folk song literature and classical music is the perfect sight-reading supplement for middle school, high school, and college students. Each unit introduces a new rhythmic or melodic concept, with opportunities to practice each new concept in isolation using short patterns before experiencing it in the context of complete tunes. The melodies and sequencing in this collection coordinate directly with Conversational Solfege Levels 1, 2, and 3, but the material works equally well as a standalone sight-reading resource for middle school and high school choirs, as well as collegiate aural skills classes. This collection transforms sight-reading from a routine task into an enriching experience, leaving students with both stronger skills and timeless tunes that will become part of their lifelong musical memory. John M. Feierabend has spent decades compiling songs and rhymes from the memories of the American people in hopes that these treasures will be preserved for future generations. He is a leading authority on child development in music and movement, and served as Professor and Chair of the Music Education Department of the Hartt School of the University of Hartford. Chris Anne Powers has been a music educator since 1995 and currently teaches K–5 general music, band, chorus, and theater in Greenwich, Connecticut. She also serves as Director of the Kodály Certification Program at the Hartt School and teaches Methodology II and III. Chris is an endorsed teacher trainer with the Feierabend Association for Music Education (FAME).
