German WWII Postal Official’s Visor Cap

German WWII Postal Official’s Visor Cap-This is an excellent example. The blue doeskin wool is in very good condition, as is the dark blue velvet center band. The traditional orange piping is in very good shape, though there is some slight moth damage to the lower piping on the reverse of the cap. The top part of the piping has some nibbles. This is not a distraction. This cap has excellent shape, with a high peak. This cap has a black patent leather vulkanfibre visor which slightly loose on one side. The underside of the visor has a crosshatched design as expected. The black patent leather chinstrap is in place as well. The insignia is the stamped aluminum NSDAP eagle clutching a mobile swastika in its talons on the front peak of the crown. The finish is excellent. The felt red center of the cockade is also excellent. This is a textbook example made by the famous maker Peter Küpper. He was one of the top five cap makers in Germany. This cap is marked with “Peter Küpper/Wh-Ronsdorf/ Stirndruckfrei/ Deutsches Reichs-Patent. This has no moisture shield. This is lined in a light beige lining. The sweatband is in place and shows only light wear. This would be worn by a Postschaffner, or “Post Conductor” an official in the Reichspost. Overall, this size 57 cap is in near excellent condition. History: The Reichspost, or "Imperial Mail", was the name of the postal service of Germany from 1866 to 1945. In the Second World War the Reichspost authority spread out to the Polish areas annexed by NSDAP Germany, such as the Reichsgau Wartheland, the Reichsgau Danzig-Westpreußen, and the Polish General Government. In 1941 postal codes were introduced. The Feldpost military mail organization of the Wehrmacht not only served Army, Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine service members, but also SS-Verfügungstruppen, Waffen-SS and Reichsarbeitsdienst members in the field, becoming the general postal authority of the occupied territories. Deliveries were more and more affected by the advance of Allied troops from January 1945 on. The Reichspost finally ceased to function with the German Surrender on May of 1945. The last Reichspostminister Julius Dorpmüller, a member of the Flensburg Government, was arrested two weeks later, and governmental authority was officially taken over by the Allied Control Council with the Berlin Declaration of June 5.
