Alte Scheibenwaffen Volume 2: Old German Target Arms (Firearms 1860-1940) by Thompson, Dillon, Hallock, Loos, Rowe

Table of Contents Collector Bookstore Notes: Early German target firearms, 1860-1940. Volume 2 concludes the Scheibenbuchsen (Schuetzen Rifles). Also covered are the Kleinkaliber (.22 caliber match rifles) and Wehrmannbuchse (militiamans rifle). Publishers Full Description: This is the continuing story of a study of the German target arms. As before, we seem to have developed a lot of answers but while doing so have brought up a whole new series of questions that we are unable to answer. If we could only turn the clock back a hundred years and be able to talk to the gunsmith who made these guns we could have our questions answered! This volume will conclude the Scheibenbuchsen (Schuetzen Rifles). Many wonderful examples are shown from some of the best collections in the world. There are chapters on both the Kleinkaliber (.22 caliber match rifles) and Wehrmannbuchse (militiamans rifle). Information in these chapters will display many of erroneous facts about them. Also included is a directory of makers from the center of German gun manufacturing - Xella-Mehlis and Suhl. This was compiled by Jesse Thompson several years ago when several of the old gunsmiths and the retired proofmaster of the Zella-Wehlis Proof house were still alive. With the passing of those individuals that information would have been lost forever. Unfortunately this past year, in February 19, 2002, Jesse Thompson left the range forever - he will be missed. The research he did was pivotal in making these books possible.
