"Gerald Draws His Teacher" is based on a true story about Jerry, the illustrator, when he was in third grade at PS 128 in Brooklyn, New York. Gerald is a young boy who loves to draw everything he sees. One day during class, he decides to draw a picture of his teacher. When she notices, she calls him up to the front of the room. Instead of being upset, the teacher is amazed by how well he captured her likeness. Still, she gently reminds him that while it’s important to follow his passion, he must also pay attention in school.
