Geneva Bible 1600

5B, Geneva Bible, translated according to the Hebrew and Greek, 1600. Notes The Geneva Bible of 1600, also known as the "Breeches Bible" due to its translation of Genesis 3:7 referring to Adam and Eve sewing "breeches" instead of "aprons," was a significant English translation of the Bible. Published during the Elizabethan era, it was the work of English Protestant exiles in Geneva during the reign of Queen Mary I. Notable for its scholarly annotations and commentary, the Geneva Bible was immensely popular among English-speaking Protestants and played a crucial role in shaping English religious and cultural identity. Its compact size and portable format facilitated widespread circulation, making it one of the most influential English translations of the Bible during the early modern period.
