With proper care, Clematis can live and bloom for decades, making it a long-term investment in your garden's beauty. Is Clematis Deer and Rabbit Resistant? While not completely deer-proof, Clematis is less likely to be eaten due to its slightly toxic foliage. However, in areas with heavy deer pressure, consider planting it near more resistant plants. Why Won't My Clematis Bloom? Common reasons for poor blooming include: Too much shade—ensure it gets at least 6 hours of sun. Improper pruning—prune according to its pruning group. Lack of nutrients—fertilize with a balanced fertilizer in early spring. The plant is too young—Clematis may take a season or two to establish before producing abundant blooms. Can Clematis Be Grown in Containers? Yes! Many compact Clematis varieties, like Garland® Tekla™ Clematis, thrive in containers. Use a large pot with drainage holes, fill it with well-draining soil, and provide a trellis or obelisk for support.
