Garbage Collection Sign

Ensure your property complies with local sanitation requirements with a durable Garbage Collection Sign. Clearly communicate designated waste collection areas and procedures for residents, tenants, employees, and sanitation personnel. Ideal for residential, commercial, and mixed-use buildings seeking organized and code-conscious waste management.  What This Sign is For: A Garbage Collection Sign identifies the designated location or instructions for refuse collection within a property. It helps guide residents, tenants, employees, visitors, and sanitation workers to the proper waste disposal or pickup area, promoting cleanliness, operational efficiency, and compliance with local waste management requirements.  Legal Requirement Explained: While there is no single universal law requiring a standardized "Garbage Collection" sign for every building, many municipalities—including New York City—require property owners to properly designate waste collection and storage areas in accordance with local sanitation, health, and building regulations. Clearly identifying collection locations helps facilitate safe waste handling, reduces sanitation violations, and supports compliance with applicable Department of Sanitation (DSNY), Department of Health, and property management requirements.  Who is Required to Post This Sign: - Commercial buildings - Multifamily residential properties - Apartment buildings and condominiums - Mixed-use developments - Office buildings - Industrial and warehouse facilities - Educational and institutional campuses - Property management companies - Building owners who designate specific waste collection or staging areas Although not universally mandated, posting clear waste collection signage is considered a best practice for maintaining organized refuse operations and reducing sanitation issues. Where We Recommend This Sign Be Posted: - At the designated garbage collection or refuse staging area - Near dumpster enclosures or waste compactors - At trash collection rooms or refuse storage areas - Adjacent to waste disposal entrances - Where residents, employees, contractors, and sanitation personnel can easily identify the designated collection location before disposing of waste Unacceptable Locations to Post This Sign: - Behind dumpsters, containers, or stored materials - Inside locked utility or maintenance rooms inaccessible to intended users - In locations blocked by landscaping, fencing, or parked vehicles - Where visibility is obstructed by equipment or building features - In areas that could cause confusion about the designated waste collection location - Where lighting conditions prevent the sign from being easily read Recommended Height / Installation Requirements: - Mount the sign approximately 48–60 inches above the finished floor or ground to the center of the sign for comfortable viewing. - Install it securely on a wall, fence, post, or other permanent surface. - Position the sign so it faces approaching pedestrians or service personnel. - Ensure it remains clearly visible, weather-resistant (for outdoor installations), and unobstructed throughout its service life.
