Fyne Audio S-Trax Supertweeter (pair)

Fyne Audio S-Trax Supertweeter (pair) An omnidirectional supertweeter with gain knob and CryoLite treatment Fyne Audio's S-Trax supertweeter eliminates the narrowly focused beam directionality of traditional supertweeters with 360-degree omnidirectional dispersion. This is the budget version of the SuperTrax but feels like a high-end product with its solid metal heft.  Moving beyond conventional forward-firing super tweeter design, the patented S-Trax uses a magnesium ultra-HF driver firing vertically onto a precision-engineered tractrix profile diffuser cone. The cone transforms the beam-like HF output of the driver into a radial 360-degree dispersion, delivering super high-frequency sound in a way which preserves the harmonics and phase response of the point source. Its black metal finish lets it fit atop any contemporary speaker design. S-Trax positioning instructions are supplied to attain perfect time-coherent acoustic integration with matching Fyne models. S-Trax is also suitable for integration with any other speaker, from Fyne Audio or other brands.  Super High-Fidelity The result is a truly immersive experience with a tangible reality to the sound that better connects with the soul and passion of the replayed music. This new technology better aligns the performance of the loudspeaker to the instruments it is required to reproduce, ensuring S-Trax delivers sound closer than ever to how the artist intended. The 25 mm (1”) driver in S-Trax has a typical in-room response (+/-6 dB) from 16 kHz – 50 kHz and is suitable to pair with speakers up to 98 dB/W sensitivity. A metal knob on the supertweeter allows easy +/-4.5 dB control for balancing with the main speaker. The 360-degrees dispersion cone with tractrix profile draws from Fyne’s expertise with its patented BassTrax technology, the 360-degree LF speaker porting system found in all premium Fyne loudspeakers. The parent SuperTrax design concept achieved a patent in January 2024, adding to Fyne’s growing list of patented technologies. S-Trax transcends the traditional audio experience, extending the frequency range of your loudspeakers several octaves above the usual limit of human hearing. This extension enriches your music with increased tonal accuracy, a more pronounced transient response, and a breathing sense of air and space, enhancing even the lowest frequencies. Fyne Audio's technical director Dr. Paul Mills says, “Musical instruments emit energy well above 50 kHz, once thought to be beyond our perception. Yet, studies by researchers such as Oohashi and Lenhardt have shown that these ultrasonic tones do influence our auditory experience, even if they’re not directly audible. The S-Trax captures this spectrum and radiates the HF energy through 360 degrees, ensuring you’re not just listening to music, you are feeling it, perceiving it, and sensing it as well.” Supertweeter White Paper Fyne Audio’s SuperTrax white paper, authored by technical director Dr. Paul Mills, demonstrates that musical instruments, speech, and percussion generate significant ultrasonic energy, often extending well past 40 kHz and up to 100 kHz. Research indicates that listeners perceive these components indirectly, through harmonic integrity, phase coherence, and even bone conduction, meaning they influence how we experience music even below the 20 kHz limit of conventional hearing. But aren’t recordings limited to 20 kHz? It’s true that CD-quality audio is specified at 44.1 kHz sampling, with a nominal bandwidth of 20 kHz. However, this is not a hard ceiling. Vinyl, tape, and high-resolution digital formats routinely capture ultrasonic energy, and even some CDs allow material to leak above the cut-off depending on the filters used. More importantly, the benefit of S-Trax is not limited to “playing” ultrasonic tones. By extending the system’s usable bandwidth, the super tweeter corrects high-frequency phase errors, which means the information you can hear is clearer, cleaner, and better timed. So what is the super tweeter actually reproducing? With high-resolution sources, S-Trax reproduces real ultrasonic musical information—cymbal crashes, harmonics of strings and brass, and even sibilants in speech. With more bandwidth-limited formats, its role is equally important: it fills in where the main tweeter tails off, so that the combined acoustic response is smoother and more phase-coherent. The main tweeter’s behavior hasn’t changed, but the system as a whole no longer depends solely on its ragged roll-off. Instead, the supertweeter takes over gracefully, maintaining harmonic integrity and reducing smearing that would otherwise creep down into the audible range.
