Future State: Dark Detective #2B (DC Comics 2021)

Filled with forty-eight fully colored pages and presented with Gabrielle Dell’Otto’s variant artwork, Future State: Dark Detective #2B tracks a fugitive billionaire dismantling Gotham’s new authoritarian infrastructure while his former ally operates as a government enforcer. Written by Mariko Tamaki and Joshua Williamson with interior illustrations by Dan Mora and Giannis Milonogiannis, this issue advances the parallel narratives established across the Future State timeline. Detective Wayne survives under a false death record while secretly mapping how assassins uncovered his dual identity. Agency investigators deploy expanding surveillance grids, forcing Wayne to breach restricted archives and expose how his original tactical training accidentally standardized the oppression network now hunting citizens. As operatives close in, each decrypted file reveals a deeper layer of corruption spanning municipal oversight and private security. Simultaneously, Jason Todd abandons combat armor to work as a mask hunter under the same jurisdiction. Hired to secure costumed threats alive, he patrols high-risk districts and processes captured vigilantes through temporary holding facilities. When localized factions of the Red Hood crew reactivate, Todd uncovers a coordinated weapon distribution chain designed to flood the lower wards. His counter-investigation forces him to confront former associates before the district fracture becomes irreversible.
