Frugality (Stress Free Frugality: The Joy of Simple Living) ~ Subliminal

Stress Free Frugality: The Joy of Simple Living — Frugality is defined as "the quality of being economical with money and resources; thriftiness." The practice of frugality includes avoiding unnecessary expenditures of money or anything else that might be used or consumed. As such, technically it is the practice of avoiding waste. Set a goal. Devise a plan. Make it happen! There are many ways we can all be more frugal and nowadays it behooves us to increase our frugal propensity. When most people think of frugality, they think of the practice of couponing or stinginess. While this may apply to some, it is not what the philosophy of frugality is all about. Indeed, the actual philosophy states, "Frugality (can be defined) as art de vivre, which implies low material consumption and a simple lifestyle to open the mind for spiritual goods such as inner freedom, social peace, justice, or the quest for 'ultimate reality.' Frugality as a conception of the good life has deep philosophical and religious roots in the East." Waste not—want not is an old saying that points us in the direction of a frugal life. Frugality instructs us in thriftiness. It encourages us to get one more squeeze of toothpaste before discarding the tube. It actions us to use our resources wisely. It teaches us that our wealth is often in the resources we consume and therefore throwing away that day old bread is throwing out money. True frugality is neither necessarily stingy nor cheap. You need not be a miser to be wise, and wisdom counsels carefulness with time, money, and resources. We use a large portion of our waking hours to make a living. As such, our money and resources are a direct result of the use of our time. Indeed, our wealth is nothing more than stored energy, our energy—the use of our time. Wasting any of our resources is simply not the way to build wealth and security, to say nothing of improving the quality of our day to day lives. You can train yourself to become frugal. You can break habits that have drained your resources unnecessarily. And you can do this while enjoying a higher reward—the pleasure and satisfaction that comes from promoting your safety and security. And all the while you are practicing frugality you are also contributing to the improvement of our planet. For less waste is part of how we achieve a green world.
