Frozen in Time – Abstract Mixed Media with Encaustic Layers

In this fast paced world, where everything seems to be a constant blur and we all suffer from external overload from a variety of sources, there are times that we need to stop, center, and enjoy the moment. Frozen In Time captures one of those moments in time when the world stops, for just a moment, and our senses take in everything that surrounds us. FROZEN IN TIME – A Moment Suspended in Memory There are moments so profound, so fleeting, that they seem to defy the passage of time itself. Frozen In Time is a meditation on those fragile instants—preserved, yet constantly shifting in the mind’s eye. It is an echo of something felt before, a whisper from the past layered into the present. A Study of Ephemeral Beauty This piece captures the delicate dance between impermanence and permanence. The interplay of encaustic wax and mixed media creates a surface that feels like an artifact of a dream, as if time itself has slowed just enough to let us linger. Subtle textures emerge like frost on a forgotten windowpane, blurring the lines between memory and reality. Layered Meaning, Layered Mediums Utilizing photography, encaustic, and raw texture, the composition evokes both nostalgia and curiosity. Hints of light and shadow pull the viewer deeper, inviting contemplation of what was, what is, and what remains unseen. The colors shift like reflections on ice—cool, serene, yet undeniably alive. A beautifully textured canvas in muted tones reveals printed papers and other ephemera to create the background. On the left is a corrugate layer with a rust colored crackle texture with a resin frame with an antique European image. The right side features the same layering element in a different shape and size, topped with an antique pocket watch. The encaustic collage behind the textured canvas is a cornucopia of vintage ephemera, printed papers and imagery. The elegantly dressed woman on the right pairs beautifully with the canvas palette, and visual interest is added with the mixed alphabet block text and the vintage glassine envelope to the lower left. SIZE: 18" x 18" x 2" (45.75cm x 45.75cm x 5cm) Special Care for Encaustic Artwork... Encaustic artwork is created with a combination of beeswax (note for those who are allergic) and damar resin. This art form has existed for centuries, but because of the natural properties of the wax it does require to be displayed out of direct sunlight in a temperature controlled environment.
