Friend 2.0

The Wild Country Friend has been the benchmark for trad climbing protection since it introduced the thumbloop-and-extendable-cord combination that the rest of the industry has spent decades trying to replicate. The Friend 2.0 doesn't reinvent what made it essential — it refines it. The same 13.75° cam angle, hollow double axles, and milled lobes that earned its reputation are all here, now paired with a genuinely improved cord system and a range that finally includes a double-axle size 0.3. The new Flow Cord is the headline change. The seamless core-mantle construction eliminates the stiff bartacks of the previous generation, letting the sling extend and retract without resistance or snagging. A red wear indicator built into the core takes the guesswork out of retirement timing. For size 4, Wild Country added a central spring-loaded locking mechanism that ensures symmetrical cam closure and keeps the lobes aligned for one-handed placements in wide cracks. If you're building a rack from scratch or filling gaps in an existing set, the Friend 2.0 is the standard against which everything else is measured. Fourteen-year certified lifespan — ten years of service, four years of storage — and milled aluminum lobes that deliver 8–10% more grip than anodized alternatives. This is what a cam is supposed to be. Features Thumbloop + Extendable Cord — the signature Wild Country combination; reduces the need for extra draws, minimizes rope drag, and lessens cam walking; extends up to 20cm Flow Cord technology — seamless core-mantle construction eliminates stiff bartacks for smooth, snag-free extension Nylon and UHMWPE outer sheath resists cuts and abrasion; UHMWPE core provides mechanical strength Red wear indicator in the core signals when sling replacement is needed 14-year certified lifespan — UV, moisture, and freeze-thaw resistant (10 years service + 4 years storage) Hollow double axle design — minimizes weight while maximizing cam range for better size overlap Milled and polished cam lobes — softer untreated aluminum delivers 8–10% more grip than anodized surfaces Spring-loaded lobes locking system (Size 4 only) — central spring ensures symmetrical closure and easy one-handed operation New size 0.3 now features double axles Technical Specs Cam angle 13.75° Cord construction Nylon + UHMWPE sheath / UHMWPE core Certified lifespan 14 years (10 service + 4 storage) Sizes available 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.75, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 Technical Information — Size Chart Size Crack Range Head Width Strength (extended cord) Strength (doubled cord) Weight 0.3 15.1–21.1mm / 0.59–0.83in 40.4mm / 1.59in 8 kN 8 kN 70g / 2.47oz 0.4 16.9–23.6mm / 0.67–0.93in 40.4mm / 1.59in 9 kN 9 kN 75g / 2.65oz 0.5 22–31mm / 0.87–1.22in 46mm / 1.81in 10 kN 12 kN 85g / 3.00oz 0.75 27.5–38.7mm / 1.08–1.52in 50.6mm / 1.99in 10 kN 12 kN 100g / 3.53oz 1 33.9–48.1mm / 1.33–1.89in 52.7mm / 2.07in 10 kN 12 kN 120g / 4.23oz 2 44.2–62.3mm / 1.74–2.45in 56mm / 2.20in 10 kN 12 kN 145g / 5.11oz 3 56.2–79.2mm / 2.21–3.12in 58.6mm / 2.31in 10 kN 12 kN 175g / 6.17oz 4 71.3–100.8mm / 2.81–3.97in 71.2mm / 2.80in 10 kN 12 kN 247g / 8.71oz 5 — — 10 kN — —
