Freekeh, Cracked

Cracked Freekeh Cracked freekeh is an ancient grain made from young green wheat that is harvested early, then roasted and cracked into smaller pieces for quicker cooking. The roasting process gives freekeh its signature smoky aroma and nutty flavor, while cracking the grains creates a tender texture that cooks in less time than whole freekeh, without losing its hearty, satisfying bite. This grain has been a staple in Middle Eastern cuisine for centuries, often used in pilafs, salads, and soups. Its toasty flavor and chewy texture make it an excellent alternative to rice or bulgur, especially in grain bowls, stuffing, or as a warm side dish tossed with herbs, lemon, and olive oil. It holds up beautifully to bold spices and hearty vegetables, making it a great match for both rustic and modern recipes. Cracked freekeh also offers a nutritious boost—it’s high in fiber and protein, with a low glycemic index, making it a smart base for nourishing meals. It can be served hot or cold, making it just as useful in a summer tabbouleh-style salad as it is in a warm autumn grain bake. We offer cracked freekeh in 5 pound pouches and 25lb sacks, ready to bring smoky flavor, rich nutrition, and timeless tradition to your kitchen.
