Freefly LR1 Laser Range Finder Upgrade

Freefly LR1 Laser Range Finder Upgrade: Real-Time Distance Sensing for the Astro LR1 Payload The Freefly LR1 Laser Range Finder Upgrade is an add-on distance sensor module that extends the capability of the LR1 payload on the Freefly Astro drone. Built around the Lightware SF20/C sensor with a maximum range of 100 meters, it adds live distance readouts directly to the AMC ground station interface and embeds the distance value at the moment of capture into every photo's metadata. For mapping, inspection, and survey operators who need ground distance data alongside imagery, this upgrade delivers both in a single user-installable module that weighs just 45g installed. Installation requires no specialized tools — the module mounts to the LR1 payload with 4 screws and plugs directly into the expansion port. The included counterweight maintains payload balance after installation. Note that the LR1 Laser Range Finder Upgrade requires the LR1 payload to already be installed on the Astro, and an additional app must be installed on the Astro to enable distance sensor functionality. If the Thermal Upgrade is also installed on the LR1, a different counterweight will be required. Key Features and Benefits Lightware SF20/C sensor: proven distance sensor with a maximum operational range of 100 meters. Live AMC readout: real-time distance preview displayed in AMC immediately after installation. Metadata embedding: distance value at time of photo capture saved directly into image metadata. 1Hz update rate: distance data refreshes continuously during flight for consistent situational awareness. Lightweight design: 45g installed weight adds minimal load to the LR1 payload and Astro airframe. User installable: mounts to LR1 expansion port with 4 screws — no specialized tools or service required. Counterweight included: sensor module counterweight ships in the box for balanced payload installation. Expansion port integration: plugs directly into the LR1 expansion port for clean, integrated installation. LR1 platform specific: designed exclusively for the LR1 payload on Freefly Astro — not a standalone sensor. Complete hardware kit: sensor module, mounting screws, and counterweight hardware all included in box. The LR1 Laser Range Finder Upgrade closes the gap between imagery and distance data — every captured photo carries the exact ground distance at the moment of exposure, embedded in the metadata without any post-processing step. Combined with the live AMC readout, operators have both real-time situational awareness and a documented distance record tied to every image in the dataset.
