The PADI Advanced Freediver course is to achieve a new freediving time or reaching a new depth is an incredible feeling. It satisfies that very personal desire to do your best and be proud of what you can accomplish. The PADI Advanced Freediver course is designed to fulfill that personal need to refine and improve your freediving skills, allowing you to progress slowly while learning how your body performs during apnea. To enroll in a PADI Advanced Freediver course you must be at least 15 years old and have a PADI Freediver certification (or a qualifying certification from another freediver organization). It is recommended to have Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care (CPR and First Aid) training within the past 24 months. You can complete this training during the Rescue Diver course. You may also want the PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider Specialty course at the same time. This program includes academic presentations (PADI online program, for home study prior to the first day), confined water training and open water sessions. WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR LEARNING TO FREEDIVE? The minimum age is 15 years old for the PADI Advanced Freediver course. (PADI Basic Freediver is a subset program on the PADI Freediver course that only includes knowledge development and a confined water session) Basic Freediver, Freediver – 12 years or older PADI Freediver - 15 years old or older Advanced Freediver – 15 years+, (also offered privately) Master Freediver – 18 years+, offered privately currently Instructor - 18 years+, offered privately currently Advanced Freediver –Confined Water Goal - static apnea of 2 minutes, 30 seconds (2 minutes for freedivers younger than 18) and dynamic apnea of 50 metres/165 feet (40 metres/130 feet for freedivers younger than 18) Open water sessions to practice deeper free immersion and constant weight freedives, along with additional buddy procedures and rescue techniques. Open Water Goal - constant weight freedive of 20 meters/65 feet (15 metres/50 feet for freedivers younger than 18) Here are the Equipment Requirements Mask, fins and snorkel - Preferably low volume mask and long blade fins or monofin. Wetsuit with gloves and boots - 5mm-7mm wetsuit is required for pool and ocean sessions. Ideally a good freediving suit with attached hood is perfect. (limited sizes in rental) Socks and gloves of at least 3mm to 6mm in thickness. Weights and weight belt - Having an assortment of smaller weights to adjust for proper buoyancy is a must. Depth and/or timing device - A waterproof watch at the very least, better yet a freediving computer is perfect. Surface Signalling Device - whistle or something equivalent Malibu Divers has this equipment available for purchase. Also, you can rent most of the gear you need depending on your size; we may be limited to what we have available for you. Note: Personal expenses, when we travel to the ferry, meals, tips, and group ferry transportation (~$125) are not included and is required for the program. Typical schedule - DATES LISTED are POOL DATES - estimated, final details will be sent in advance. Thursday or other weekday evening - 6 pm - 9 pm academics & class session on ZOOM (eLearning/online course completed prior to this evening!) Saturday 8 am - 12 pm - Class & Pool session Sunday 6:00 am - 3:55 pm (or you may choose to depart on an earlier ferry if we go to Catalina; please be advised that ferry schedules change throughout the year) ocean dives ((NOTE: MIDWEEK programs - 1 zoom (Mon-Wed.TBD) at 6 pm, Wed or Thursday's pool at 4-6 pm, Saturday's is at Catalina; click this link for the calendar for specific months)) *PADI Freediver Academics combines the course manual and video into an interactive learning tool. It also includes the required Knowledge Reviews and final exams with appropriate remediation. An earlier version of PADI Freediver Touch included the course content for all three freediver levels. A student who begins a PADI Freediver course can continue to use the product when ready to take the PADI Advanced Freediver course, then also use it for the PADI Master Freediver course. This product includes credit for one certification card. If you finish one course and take the next level course, you simply purchase an individual PIC Online credit to complete certification for that student. We have INCLUDED the PIC Online credit below in the price. This is the earlier version. Most freedivers certified with Malibu Divers prior to December 2025. were issued the above eLearning. NOTE: if you do not have the earlier PADI Freediver Touch version (all levels ABOVE) or have another Agency beginner cert level, please select the regular Advanced Freediver Program and add Advanced eLearning option.
