Care & Maintenance for Maximum Longevity To keep your Franklin Coldmax gloves in championship condition: Drying: Allow gloves to air dry naturally away from direct heat sources (radiators, heaters, fireplaces) Storage: Store in a cool, dry location during off-season; avoid compressed storage that can damage fleece lining Cleaning: Spot clean leather palms with a damp cloth; use leather conditioner 2-3 times per season to maintain suppleness Touch-Screen Care: Gently wipe fingertip sensors with microfiber cloth to maintain conductivity Water Protection: While water-repellent, avoid prolonged submersion; shake off excess moisture after use in wet conditions Finding Your Perfect Fit Franklin Coldmax gloves are designed with a comfortable, athletic fit that accommodates the polar fleece lining while maintaining dexterity. For the best fit, measure the circumference of your hand at the widest point (across your palm, excluding thumb). The gloves should feel snug but not restrictive, allowing full finger movement for gripping equipment and using digital devices. If between sizes, we recommend sizing up for maximum comfort with the insulated lining. Frequently Asked Questions What temperature range are the Franklin Coldmax gloves designed for? The Franklin Coldmax gloves are engineered for extreme cold weather conditions, providing optimal warmth and protection in temperatures ranging from 15°F to 45°F (-9°C to 7°C). The 270G polar fleece lining and wind-resistant construction make them ideal for early spring training, late fall tournaments, and winter conditioning programs. Many MLB umpires and coaches rely on them during the coldest game days throughout the season. How does the touch-screen technology work in cold weather? The thumb and index fingertips feature conductive material woven into the leather, allowing electrical contact with capacitive touch screens without removing your gloves. This technology maintains full functionality even in freezing temperatures, enabling you to operate smartphones, tablets, and other digital devices. The feature is particularly valuable for coaches managing digital playbooks, umpires checking rulebooks, and players reviewing training videos between innings. Can I wear the Coldmax gloves while batting or fielding? The Coldmax gloves are primarily designed for cold-weather warmth during coaching, umpiring, warming up, and between-inning activities. While the genuine leather palms provide excellent grip, the polar fleece lining adds bulk that may reduce the tactile feel required for batting or fielding. For in-game use, we recommend our cold-weather batting gloves which offer protection without sacrificing performance. The Coldmax excels as dugout gloves, coaching gloves, or warm-up gloves. Are these gloves truly water-repellent or waterproof? The Franklin Coldmax features water-repellent leather palms, meaning they effectively shed light to moderate moisture (rain, snow, mist) and resist water absorption. However, they are not completely waterproof and should not be submerged or exposed to heavy, prolonged rainfall. The water-repellent treatment keeps your hands dry during typical cold-weather baseball conditions including light precipitation, dew-covered equipment, and snow flurries. This protection maintains grip quality without compromising the leather's natural breathability. Why do MLB umpires and players choose the Coldmax? Professional umpires and players demand equipment that performs flawlessly in the most challenging conditions. The Coldmax delivers on three critical factors: (1) Superior warmth without sacrificing hand mobility for making calls or signals, (2) Touch-screen compatibility for instant access to rulebooks and replay reviews, and (3) Professional-grade leather construction that maintains grip and durability through entire seasons. These gloves meet MLB's rigorous quality standards while providing the extreme-weather protection that professionals require during early April games and October playoffs. What sizes are available for the Coldmax gloves? Franklin Coldmax cold weather gloves are available in adult sizes Small through XXL. Due to the 270G polar fleece lining, these gloves run slightly larger than standard gloves. To find your ideal fit, measure your hand's circumference at the widest point and consult our sizing chart. If you're between sizes, we recommend choosing the larger size to ensure comfortable layering over the insulated lining without restricting hand movement or circulation. Can I use these gloves for activities besides baseball? Absolutely! While designed specifically for baseball and softball professionals, the Franklin Coldmax excels in any outdoor cold-weather activity requiring warmth, dexterity, and touch-screen access. They're perfect for winter running, hiking, hunting, fishing, skiing, snowboarding, outdoor photography, construction work, and general winter commuting. The combination of genuine leather palms, wind-resistant construction, and digital device compatibility makes them versatile cold-weather gloves for athletes and outdoor enthusiasts across all activities. How do I clean and maintain the leather on these gloves? Proper care ensures your Coldmax gloves last for multiple seasons. After each use in wet conditions, wipe the leather palms with a clean, dry cloth and allow them to air dry completely away from direct heat. Apply a quality leather conditioner 2-3 times per season to maintain the leather's softness and water-repellent properties. For the fleece lining, spot clean only with a damp cloth if needed. Never machine wash or dry, as this can damage both the leather and the touch-screen conductive fibers.
