Fragrant Valley Sweet Box

Fragrant Valley Himalayan Sweetbox (Sarcococca hookeriana var. humilis 'Fragrant Valley')Fragrant Valley Himalayan Sweetbox is an evergreen shrub that turns dry, shady spaces into something that feels intentional and complete. Its glossy, narrow foliage stays dense year-round, giving you structure when most shade plants fade into the background. In late winter to early spring, it produces small white flowers with a strong, sweet fragrance that makes cold-season garden walks worth taking. It is a dependable choice for foundations and woodland edges where you want low-maintenance polish with a seasonal reward. Distinctive FeaturesThis selection forms a compact, mounded shrub that spreads gradually to create a thicker patch over time. Tiny, creamy white flowers bloom in late winter to early spring and perfume the air, even though the blooms are tucked close to the stems. After flowering, shiny dark fruits can develop and add subtle interest as the season warms. The overall look is clean and refined, with foliage texture that pairs well with ferns, hellebores, and other shade garden staples. Low Maintenance Care Pruning: Prune lightly in spring after flowering to refine shape and remove any crowded or damaged stems. Watering: Water regularly the first year, then deep water during prolonged drought to keep foliage lush. Mulching: Mulch with composted bark or leaf mold to conserve moisture and improve soil over time.
