Fragile Beasts Coloring Book

Bring dragons, chimeras, and mythical creatures back to life—one color at a time. Creative. Curious. Fantastical. Fragile Beasts Coloring Book invites you into a mesmerizing world of hidden monsters, winding serpents, playful gargoyles, and fantastical beasts inspired by some of the most imaginative designs of the Renaissance. Drawn from rare 16th- and 17th-century grotesque ornament prints, this unique coloring book transforms centuries-old works of art into an interactive adventure. As you fill each page with color, intricate creatures emerge from elaborate patterns and decorative flourishes, revealing a magical universe where dragons curl through vines, chimeras guard hidden corners, and mythical animals come alive before your eyes. The inspiration for these enchanting designs dates back to the late 15th century, when the discovery of ancient Roman murals sparked a fascination with fantastical ornamentation throughout Europe. Artists and designers began filling architecture, textiles, metalwork, stained glass, jewelry, locks, tapestries, ceramics, and decorative objects with extraordinary hybrid creatures that were equal parts elegant, mischievous, fearsome, and playful. Some designs were whimsical, others mysterious, and many balanced beauty with a touch of the unexpected. Created in conjunction with Fragile Beasts, the celebrated exhibition at Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, this coloring book brings rarely seen works from the museum's permanent collection to a new audience. Carefully redrawn by designer Magali An Berthon, these historic prints are presented here in a format that encourages creativity, exploration, and close looking while preserving the intricate details that made the original works so captivating. Whether you're a coloring enthusiast, design lover, history buff, or simply looking for a relaxing creative escape, Fragile Beasts Coloring Book offers hours of artistic discovery and inspiration. Blending art history, mythology, and hands-on creativity, it invites readers of all ages to engage directly with remarkable works that have rarely been seen outside museum collections. Part coloring book, part design archive, and part mythical adventure, Fragile Beasts Coloring Book transforms historical masterpieces into a world waiting for your imagination.
