Fortress Stairs

Architects and children tend to be fascinated by stairs. Bertil shares that love! For over four decades, he has created and explored glass sculptures in which stairs are the lifeblood, the bearing element of the glass. A cube, a little house, a staircase – from these three simple shapes (and a few colors), Bertil Vallien generates an anecdote that sets something in motion, not only a desire to dash up and down stairs… Fortress Stairs is part of Bertil Vallien’s anniversary collection, “Bertil Vallien: 60 years with Kosta Boda” (1963–2023), and is handmade at Kosta Glassworks in Sweden with details in real 21 karat gold.
