Breakdown of Ingredients Allstar combines more cutting edge ingredients into one supplement than any other product on the market. The following is a detailed breakdown of each ingredient in Allstar, an exclusive product from ForeFront Equine. Curcumin - Daily wear and tear of the joints leads to the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines which leads to the breakdown of joint cartilage. Pain and stiffness soon follow. Curcumin has a long history of medicinal use due to its anti-inflammatory properties. The science around curcumin has increased dramatically with over 7,000 studies currently in PubMed (database of scientific publications). It is believed that the benefits of curcumin in OA arise from the reduction of inflammation in the osteo-carilagenous tissue. Studies repeatedly show that curcumin's anti-inflammatory abilities work as well as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Not only is curcumin effective, but it also comes without the worrisome side effects experienced by more than half of those who take pharmaceutical painkillers. ForeFront Equine is one of the first equine companies to incorporate curcumin in their equine product line. It is technology like this that makes ForeFront Equine a leader in equine nutrition. Egg Membrane - Comprised of collagen, elastin, chondroitin sulfate and hyaluronic acid - the building blocks of connective tissue - natural egg membrane is a great ingredient to promote joint health. Collagen is a fibrous protein critical to cartilage strength and elasticity. Elastin is a protein critical to skin, cardiovascular, cartilage, and spinal column health. Elastin gives tissue the elastic tension and ability to resume its shape after stretching. One clinical research study with fifty-seven (57) canines with limited joint mobility demonstrated positive changes within 7 days; all subjects exhibited increased activity and mobility by the conclusion of the 28-day study. ForeFront Equine is the first equine company to combine curcumin with egg membrane. MSM - MSM is a naturally occurring nutrient found in many foods in very small amounts. Published research shows MSM to be safe and effective in promoting joint comfort and supporting a normal range of motion in animals. The sulfur in MSM helps promote flexibility and elasticity of body tissue and helps maintain cell membrane permeability. MSM also acts as a powerful antioxidant, scavenging free radicals and aiding in muscle function and joint fluid production. MSM (known as methylsulfonylmethane) is directly involved in the production of collagen, which affects the elasticity of skin, joints and muscle tissue. But perhaps most profoundly, MSM does seem to provide a significant degree of pain relief and improvement in conditions that affect the joints, like arthritis and general inflammatory pain. A recent study conducted by the Southwest College Research Institute, found that arthritic knee pain could be dramatically improved after 12 weeks of MSM treatment. This means that a healthy dose of MSM can mean more flexible joints and muscles, which can withstand exertion and keep your equine athlete on course! The MSM used by ForeFront Equine is manufactured exclusively in the United States, where the purity is carefully monitored and controlled to the highest standards. Horse owners can be assured they are getting the highest quality MSM available. BeneCell - As one of the most researched ingredients for use in animal diets BeneCell is well-documented for its overall efficacy in animal diets. BeneCell is a proprietary blend of purified nucleotides and other essential nutrients. Nucleotides play a critical role in the body in that they accelerate the cell proliferation process (cell regeneration). Cell regeneration allows an animal to recover much quicker from the type of stress it is under (performance, illness, disease, injury, etc.). The underlying reason for the success of BeneCell lies in the fact that the added nucleotides facilitate an accelerated immune response within an organism. An immune response is simply the ability of an animal to mount an effective defense against malignancies and invading micro-organisms by producing immunoglobulin's (antibodies). Considering that 70% of an animal's immune system is in their GI tract, the immune system itself is directly affected by the health of the digestive system. The ability of BeneCell to provide a healthy digestive system is well-documented in clinical and case studies. These studies have shown that BeneCell positively affects: Positive growth of intestinal villi which is vital for nutrient absorption Reduction in pathogens such as E.coli Increase in beneficial bacteria to help have a balance microbial balance in the G.I. tract Helps maintain weight especially during times of stress BeneCell is used worldwide in human nutrition to address conditions such as IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), cold and flu, and athletic recovery, to name a few. The pure nucleotides in BeneCell are also used in companion animal, bovine, swine, aquaculture and avian diets around the world due to its continued results. We are confident you and your horse will experience these same types of results while using Allstar from ForeFront Equine. Colostrum - As nature's first food, colostrum supplies immune and growth factors along with a perfect combination of vitamins and minerals to support overall health. Colostrum has applications for every age, stage of life and level of activity. The equine digestive system is largely responsible for good health, and unfortunately, poor health as well. Stress, diet, NSAID and antibiotic use can have tremendous negative consequences on your horse's digestion. Several published studies have shown that colostrum plays a major role in digestive health. It not only protects the digestive tract from nasty bacterial infections, but also reduces the toxicity of those infections, and repairs the lining of the GI tract -all at the same time. Digestive integrity is key to a horse's health in many ways as it is the foundation of immunity. Colostrum is one tool you can employ to help support a healthy digestive tract and immune system for your horses. The colostrum used by ForeFront Equine comes from a proprietary treatment process that is recognized and approved by federal authorities and international product safety organizations. Gentle thermal processing techniques provide assurance against microbial contamination, while protecting superior immunoglobulin content, specific antibodies, growth factors, and other valuable components found within colostrum. Getty, Ph.D. on the many benefits of "Colostrum - An Exceptional Superfood" Probiotic/Prebiotic Equine Blend - The performance and health of your horse is dependent upon the proper balance of digestive tract bacteria. For this reason probiotics play a critical role in your horse's diet. They help to ensure a healthy digestive tract; enhance the immune system and defend against pathogenic agents in the digestive tract. ForeFront Equine is the first equine company to use this unique equine specific probiotic blend. Why are probiotics essential and, more importantly, why equine specific probiotics? The intestinal tract encompasses one of the most diverse microbial settings ever discovered. Dependent on the life style and/or types of nutrition, the digestive tract could be subjected to some minor, or major, alterations with possible implications in disease. Thus, any disruption in the inherent nature of the GIT environment can inadvertently have unfavorable and irreparable even tragic consequences. Today, bacteria known as probiotics are used to maintain the microbial balance of the GIT ecosystem. Experts agree that persistent viability of probiotics within the GIT is a determining indicator for the efficacy of probiotics, however the health promoting outcomes may be intriguingly challenging. All these happen because the isolated strains, used as probiotics, are not either species specific (also known as indigenous) or carefully selected. In animal supplements, the probiotic strains used are primarily either human or bovine derived. These are considered non-indigenous (foreign) as they are extracted from a non-specie source. Indigenous probiotic bacteria can tolerate the harsh conditions of the GIT (Iyer et al., 2005), while non-indigenous bacteria are unable to endure such harsh conditions. The introduction of non-indigenous probiotics into the intestine can lead to some alterations in the microorganism environment resulting in the emergence of metabolic syndrome, autoimmune diseases, and other disorders in a short- or long-term period (Barzegari, 2014). For this reason, ForeFront Equine is using a novel probiotic blend that includes two equine specific probiotic strains - Lactobacillus fermentum and Lactobacillus salivarius. These indigenous strains were cultured directly from horses (in a non-harmful manner). Being that they are host specific they can withstand the rigors of the equine digestive tract. Each digestive tract (human or animal) has a different pH, temperature and ecosystem. For this reason having a host specific strain greatly increases the likelihood of those strains surviving the complex digestive ecosystem. Equine Specific Enzyme Blend - is a multi-enzyme blend of non-animal source enzymes made specifically to aid in the complex digestive system of horses. The blend is very effective in the pH range of 3 to 8, working continuously throughout the pH variations in the digestive tract. This is critical as Kern (1974) measured pH in various segments of the horse's GI tract and these values range from 2.6 to 7.4. The blend consists of a variety of digestive enzymes including amylase, protease, lipase and a very special enzyme mix. This mix is a very special enzyme complex that is capable of breaking the 1-6 carbon bonds found in legume sugars. These sugars are difficult for horses to digest. When feed contains a high percentage of grain and/or alfalfa the microbial flora ferment these sugars that result in gas and pain. This mix consists of the enzymes required for hydrolyzing plant based feed, regardless of the mix of grains, legumes and hay. IT also unlocks metabolic energy and nutritive factors increasing the nutritional value of feed. As with the equine specific probiotic blend, the equine enzyme blend was made specifically for horses making it not only safe but effective. Organic Papaya - It's likely you don't think much about your digestive system unless it gives you problems. When working properly, it breaks food down into smaller components so that your body can absorb and use nutrients from your diet. If healthy, your body produces the enzymes you need for proper digestion. Papaya contains a proteolytic enzyme called papain, which is highest when the fruit is ripe. Proteolytic enzymes aid in protein digestion. Unlike most of the conventional horse ulcer treatment options (Ulcer Guard, Gastro Guard, etc.), papaya is safe for long-term use. The aforementioned products use a calcium/magnesium antacid base to neutralize acid and coat the stomach wall with a chalky protective layer. However, if they are used over an extended period, resulting high levels of magnesium can interfere with the absorption of calcium. Low calcium levels can cause nervousness, bone changes, weak and aching muscles and abnormal heart rhythms. The expensive pharmaceuticals which reduce acid production are great for most acute ulcer symptoms. However, acid is needed to control and modify bacteria in the gut. If the acid levels are low for many months, "bad" bacteria, particularly Salmonella, can overpopulate the digestive tract and create conditions for colic. Furthermore, prolonged low acid levels can cause poor absorption of vitamin B12, inefficient utilization of dietary protein, food allergies, bloating and foul manure. Papaya is a natural and very effective way to provide digestive support and nicely complements the other ingredients in Allstar. Proprietary Herb Blend - The proprietary herb blend in Allstar was specifically designed to support optimum lung function and maintaining the integrity of a healthy respiratory tract and treat symptoms of respiratory distress. The herbs not only provide respiratory support but they offer a wide range of other benefits as they work synergistically with the other nutrients in Allstar. This blend was formulated specifically for ForeFront Equine by a leading herbalist.   **Colostrum Description - Sourcing & Collection Colostrum is collected from U.S. Grade A dairies.
