Focal Kanta N°2

KANTA N°2 3-way floor-standing speaker Original and contemporary, Kanta N°2 reinvents music listening. Like the other products in the line, this floor-standing speaker boasts a truly disruptive aesthetic, combined with a combination of exclusive Focal technologies. Iconic design at the service of high acoustic performance: this is the exceptional DNA of this high-fidelity loudspeaker.               FLAX AND BERYLLIUM COMBINATION The line's original combination of Flax membrane and Beryllium tweeter. Flax brings clarity and sonic precision; Beryllium contributes to the reproduction of sensational treble. The sound of Kanta N°2 is precise, warm and exceptionally musical.           MODERN AND DISRUPTIVE, KANTA TURNS DESIGN CODES ON THEIR HEAD FOR SOUND AND DESIGN Thanks to Focus Time, all the loudspeakers are at the same distance from the ear. The modern character of the loudspeaker is underlined by a one-piece molded wood rear shell, a Zamak base, a glass plate, discreet magnetic fabric holders...         MODERN FINISHES Matte, White, Ivory or Black fronts are combined with Black High Gloss, White High Gloss or Walnut High Gloss bodies, offering a wide choice of contemporary combinations. The sophisticated Matte effect "absorbs" light rather than reflecting it, creating a refined contrast with the varnishes.     TECHNOLOGIES TMD SUSPENSION Stabilized surround, eliminates vibrations While our engineers are experts in the development of exclusive diaphragms, they also innovate in all the components that make up the loudspeakers, such as the surround that connects the diaphragm to the frame, the performance of which must be mastered. Introduced in 2015, Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) technology with harmonic damping consists of the addition of finely positioned toroidal weights to stabilize the surround for even greater sonic neutrality. This technology enhances the midrange and the erratic behavior of the surround between 1 kHz and 2 kHz.     BÉRYLLIUM TWEETER For exceptional treble Membrane shape and materials are essential for high-fidelity reproduction. For exceptional treble, our engineers have developed the Béryllium inverted dome tweeter in pure Beryllium. Thanks to its unrivalled rigidity, Beryllium is the material of choice for high-frequency loudspeakers. Developed and patented by Focal, the pure Beryllium inverted dome is capable of covering more than five octaves (1,000 - 40,000 Hz) for perfect perception of micro-details.         HIGH DENSITY POLYMER Specially designed cabinetry Everything is designed to bring softness and warmth to the sound: density and rigidity of both front and shell materials, soft angles and a double vent. A new material, favorable to acoustic parameters, is used for the façade. It is molded from a single block of High Density Polymer (HDP). This material offers enhanced performance: it is 70% denser than MDF, 15% more rigid and offers 25% more damping. The one-piece front panel eliminates any sound diffraction.           NIC TECHNOLOGY Very high sound definition For very high-definition sound, control of the magnetic flux circulating in the loudspeaker is essential. Our acousticians have created a magnetic circuit of incredible stability, guaranteeing perfectly controlled sound: Neutral Inductance Circuit (NIC) technology. This patented technology resides in a Faraday ring whose dimensions, material and positioning are optimized to make the magnetic flux stable and the sound highly precise.           FLAX MEMBRANE Purity and precision of sound As the key component of a loudspeaker, the membrane is at the heart of our acoustic engineers' research. After more than five years of research and development, in 2013 Focal unveiled an exclusive membrane made from flax. Patented, this Flax cone is a sandwich made of very high quality French flax fibre placed between two thin sheets of glass fibre. It satisfies all the criteria of a high-fidelity membrane: lightness to offer good dynamics, rigidity to hold the bass and damping to deliver a neutral, natural, uncolored sound. It is an emblematic Focal innovation in many hi-fi products.         REVIEW & AWARDS Recommended Components 2021 Edition Loudspeaker Systems - Read More "JA's measurements uncovered slightly-lower-than-specified sensitivity, and load characteristics that suggest the need for an amplifier well versed in the driving of low-impedance loudspeakers; overall, he said, the Kanta No.2 "offers excellent measured performance.""   Focal Kanta No. 2 Loudspeakers | REVIEW - Read More "The Focal Kanta No. 2 is likewise a recommendation from me. If you’re looking for a big-boy tower, with huge punch, dynamics, top to bottom coherency and technical ability, this one should firmly have your attention. If the Kanta No. 2 were a city, it would be Brooklyn. Tough, ready to take on anything, distinctly American, and yet with a hidden refinement that hints at the European roots, a certain panache and sophistication that Europe seems to have perfected. This speaker is proof that the heyday of large, multi-way floorstanders isn’t over; it is perhaps in its golden age. " - Grover Neville Focal Kanta No.2 loudspeaker - Read More "Nothing could be further from the truth. Focal is one of the most technically advanced speaker makers in the world, and the Kanta No.2 has benefited from that expertise, with drive-units designed and made in-house and the applications of other proprietary technologies. After suitable break-in, my review pair of Kanta No.2s was capable of dynamic, well-balanced sound with a high degree of transparency to the source, and surprising bass extension for the speaker's size. Although styling has obviously played a role in its design, there's nothing in the Kanta No.2's sound to suggest that it has resulted in any compromises. With the Kanta No.2, styling is merely the icing on the audiophile cake." - Robert Deutsch Focal Kanta No. 2 Loudspeaker - Read More "While the Kantas are not Sopras or Utopias, Focal has finessed the challenge of providing a significant slice of the performance of their top speakers at a more accessible cost. If you have a loudspeaker budget of $10k—and the right amplifier—the Kanta N°2 ought to be on your list of products to hear." - Andrew Quint   Focal Kanta No2 Floorstanding Speaker Review - Read More "In my relatively small lounge, the Kanta No2 treads a near perfect balance of filling the room and loading it with low end without overpowering it. There’s no trace of port noise and unless you commit crimes of speaker placement like jamming them into a corner, they are impressively benign in terms of placement too." - Ed Selley  Focal Kanta No.2 floorstanding loudspeaker - Read More "The creativity of designers continues to amaze. What is especially heartening is to find a leading company clearly not resting on their laurels. Focal has been around since it was founded as JM Labs in 1979, and is vying for top spot of Euro-makers with B&W and KEF. Focal has the facilities to create and manufacture all of its own drivers and it builds all of its cabinets as well. With that size and success has not come complacency. The company continues to strive and innovate, and the new Kanta N°2 as the progenitor of a new line proves. If you cannot afford or accommodate the flagship Utopia’s, if the Sopra’s are a touch too far, you can now rest easy. The Kanta N°2’s will provide. Give them a good listen and maybe a good home. Very highly recommended!" - Eric Neff   Focal Kanta No.2 – Review - Read More "And so, after a good four weeks, my work is done, more enjoyable when you forget you’re sat in front of a 20 thousand pounds worth of equipment.  One might argue these are not exactly ‘lookers’, however, after a period of time I would beg to differ as the smooth corners fade into the background and music overwhelms you.  This is as natural a sound as I think you could wish for and with these clean cables and a really good turntable, I feel very privileged to be experiencing these speakers. By a street, I would recommend these speakers without hesitation if you have the system to do them justice and a source to match.  I insist you have a listen, and then invest in some cables if needed, and you may never listen to another pair of speakers again….  Until the No. 3s come out?" - Simon Wilce Focal Kanta No. 2 Loudspeaker Reviewed - Read More "Familiarity, as they say, often breeds contempt. By that I mean that with most hi-fi products, the longer you spend with them the more you start to notice their flaws, minor as they may be. With the Kanta No. 2, I found just the opposite: the longer I spent with it, the more I appreciated its sophistication. If you have the budget, the Kanta No. 2 belongs on your short list of contenders." - Greg Handy   Focal Kanta No2 loudspeaker - Read More "The sound here can feel a little constrained at times, and is perhaps better suited to bijou rooms where you can give the Kanta No2s the attention they need. Yet that extra touch of style must surely attract users who have been intimidated by the visuals of Focal’s earlier speakers. So it’s mission accomplished for this new and more streamlined design that produces an insightful sound in ‘real’ spaces." -  Cliff Joseph     SPECIFICATIONS Sound - Accoustic Product type Bass-reflex 3-way column Membrane Flax Woofer 2x 6.5" (16.5cm) Flax woofer with NIC motor Medium 6.5" (16.5cm) Flax midrange drivers with TMD suspension and magnet Tweeter 11/16" (27mm) ‘IAL3’ pure Beryllium inverted dome tweeter Response at - 6dB (Low frequency point) 29 Hz Frequency response (+/- 3dB) 35 Hz - 40 kHz Minimum impedance 3.1 Ω Nominal Impedance 8 Ω Recommened amplifier power 40 - 300 W Sensivity 91 dB Design Depth 321 mm / 12.62 in Height 1.118 mm / 44 in Width 477 mm / 18.75 in Accessories Counter points Counter spikes x4 already mounted Grids  Magnetic cloth frame Points Spikes x4
