Traditional Flint & Steel - Basic Kit - High-Carbon Steel Striker, Flint and Charcloth

Our traditional BushKraft™ fire strikers are hand-forged from high carbon steel in a classic Nordic/Viking style that is simple and easy to hold. For our Basic kit we include a piece of natural Texas flint, and two small sections of char cloth so you can start practicing right out of the box! Traditional Flint & Steel is a fantastically simple fire-lighting tool based on ancient designs and is one of the oldest methods for fire-starting. When struck with a piece of flint, small particles of the steel are scrapped off that quickly oxidize in the air, turning into sparks through a process know as pyrophoricity. These small sparks can be "caught" with a piece of charred cloth that will grow an ember that can then be used to ignite larger tinder to build a fire. It is a process that takes patience and practice to master, but is an excellent skill to learn as an alternative to modern fire lighting techniques. Makes a perfect compliment to your existing fire-starting kit at the same time adding a traditional way firestarting. Each steel is hand forged from high carbon steel that will last for generations. We also carry charcloth and additional flint pieces to restock your bushcraft fire kit so be sure to check out the other items in our store. Note: Although we encourage youngsters to learn primitive skills, this kit is not toy and should only be used under adult supervision. We stand by all of our products with a no-hassle promise; if you're not satisfied for any reason we'll make it right.  Technical Specs: Material: High Carbon Steel Dimensions: 4" x 1-1/2"  x 1/4" Weight: 4 oz.
