Flight, by River Raine

Prose, chapbook, 20 pages, from Bottlecap Features. A group of drag performers face the repercussions after a shooting has taken place at a gay bar. This was written in response to the recent shooting at Club Q in Colorado Springs. While this is a work of fiction, this could be a real story that could happen to any queer person in America given the recent legislation passing in some states. This is a terrifying time for us, but we still have each other and we will continue to fight for our very basic human rights. Take Tom’s story to heart and know that you can make things better for people like him. Vote and call your representatives. River Raine (they/them) is an author new to the scene. They are passionate about queer and trans rights and will continue to write about the struggles the community goes through in hopes of bringing their stories to an audience that may not see them otherwise. Instead of promoting myself further, I will encourage you to seek out and donate to the ACLU, a non-profit and non-partisan organization that strives to fight for social justice, including working to ensure that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people can live openly without discrimination and enjoy equal rights, personal autonomy, and freedom of expression and association.
