Flats Mantis – Saltwater Shrimp Fly

The Flats Mantis is a refined shrimp pattern built for technical flats situations where fish demand a natural profile and subtle movement to commit. Tied on a Gamakatsu SL11-3H hook in sizes #6, #4, and #2. This fly mimics the long, slender look of mantis shrimp and small crustaceans commonly found on flats, with soft materials that breathe and track naturally in the water. The design keeps bulk to a minimum while still offering enough presence for fish to locate it, making it effective in both clear and lightly stained conditions. It excels on slow strips, short hops, and controlled presentations, making it a strong choice for redfish, bonefish, and other flats species that are feeding low and reacting to subtle movement rather than aggressive action.
