Flame Sumac

CLICK HERE TO ZOOM IN ON DETAIL (2012) An homage to autumn, the season that makes me reflect the most. I love every single thing about this time of year in the Midwest. There's a little wistfulness in fall as the leaves die and the inevitability of winter's frozen torpor looms. I think this season tends to make people live a little bolder, a little harder, and with a little more gusto in anticipation of this "seasonal death". Inspired, too, by both the element of fire and the vibrancy of Flameleaf Sumac, I mirrored the leaf shape in the actual flames on the chandelier. Original piece sold at auction. “Someday, after mastering the winds, the waves, the tides and gravity, we shall harness for God the energies of love, and then, for a second time in the history of the world, man will have discovered fire.." -- Pierre Teilhard de Chardin “The artist must create a spark before he can make a fire and before art is born, the artist must be ready to be consumed by the fire of his own creation..”  -- Auguste Rodin “Oh, she got both feet on the ground And she's burning it down Oh, she got her head in the clouds And she's not backing down This girl is on fire.” – Alicia Keys
