To get the best burn: Trim the wood wick to about 1/8" (lower than cotton wicks!) before each burn. A shorter wick creates a cleaner, steadier flame. Allow the wax to melt all the way to the jar's edges on every burn to help prevent tunneling. If the flame seems very low, blow the candle out, let the wax cool completely, trim away the charred wood, and relight by tilting the jar and holding the flame at one corner of the wick until the flame travels across the wick.  Wood wicks have a personality of their own -- each one burns a little differently. A gentle crackle, lower flame, and occasional flicker are all part of the charm.
