Firefly® Bush Honeysuckle

Glowing copper-red foliage and buttery-yellow blooms on a tough, deer-resistant native shrub that thrives where almost nothing else will. The Firefly® Bush Honeysuckle (Diervilla sessilifolia 'Bocofire') is a compact, easy-care North American native that earns its place through season-long color rather than a single fleeting show. New growth emerges in fiery shades of orange and copper-red, settling into rich burgundy-tinged green as it matures, then flaring again in fall. Clusters of small, tubular sulfur-yellow flowers appear in spring and draw in bees and other pollinators. Staying a tidy 2 to 3 feet tall and wide with a moderate, mounding habit, it suckers gently to form a dense, weed-suppressing colony — making it as useful on a dry slope or hard-to-plant bank as it is in a polished border. Why growers choose the Firefly® Bush Honeysuckle Color all season. Copper-red new growth, burgundy-flushed summer foliage, and warm fall tones give you far more than the spring bloom alone. Truly tough. Cold-hardy in USDA zones 3 through 8, it shrugs off heat, drought once established, and poor or rocky soil. Deer tend to leave it alone. A reliably deer-resistant choice for landscapes where browsing is a constant battle. Pollinator friendly. The yellow spring flowers offer nectar to bees and other beneficial insects. Low, neat, and self-sufficient. A naturally compact 2-to-3-foot mound that spreads slowly to knit slopes together and crowd out weeds, with little pruning required. Use it as a fuss-free groundcover on an erosion-prone bank, a low informal hedge or mass planting, a colorful filler in a mixed shrub border, or a native, pollinator-supporting layer in a naturalized or low-water garden.
