We're asked daily for a recommendation between Ferodo DS2500, DS1.11, and DS3.12 brake pads—and with good reason. These three compounds cover nearly every use case, from daily-driven sports cars to championship-winning racecars. All three of these compounds are classified as Ferodo racing brake pads, not street pads, and each excels in specific areas such as fade resistance, torque stability, rotor wear, cold bite, and pad longevity. Whether you're heading to your first HPDE event or racing wheel-to-wheel in GT endurance, this guide helps you identify which Ferodo compound best matches your needs. Ferodo Racing Brake Pad Comparison DS3.12 vs DS1.11 vs DS2500 Compound Key Strengths Best For Notes Ferodo DS3.12 - Flattest torque curve tested - High mu with less pedal pressure - Unfadeable at racing temps - Long-lasting and disc-friendly Club racing, time trials, HPDE, endurance racing Great for high-horsepower, heavy cars with aero and slicks Designed for modern track demands Exceptional pedal consistency Quickly becoming the new gold standard in race compounds Ferodo DS1.11 - Endurance-proven durability - Flat torque curve across wide temps - Easy on rotors - Fade-resistant and long-lasting Endurance racing, club racing, HPDE Ideal for drivers who want consistency and long wear life Slightly lower bite than DS3.12 Excellent option for long stints and heavy use Ferodo DS2500 - Hybrid street/track performance - Good cold bite and manners - Moderate noise and dust - Flat torque curve during aggressive driving Dual-purpose driving, canyon runs, autocross, light track use Excellent for HPDE on street tires May wear quickly on heavy cars with race tires One of the best value pads for enthusiast drivers Ferodo Brake Pad Fade Resistance & Max Operating Temperature DS3.12: Unmatched fade resistance, withstanding 1600°F+ on dyno tests with zero fade. The top choice for pro-level racing and extreme track duty. DS1.11: Excellent fade resistance with a slightly lower max temp than DS3.12. Ideal for endurance racing and high-speed circuits. DS2500: Superior to any street/sport pad for fade, but not suited to heavy race use with slicks. Perfect for dual-purpose and HPDE cars on street tires. Ferodo Brake Pad Pad Life & Durability DS3.12: The most durable in the Ferodo lineup, offering ~15% more pad life than DS1.11. Built for endurance racing. DS1.11: Long-lasting with excellent disc friendliness when bedded properly. DS2500: Less durable in high-heat racing environments but adequate for light track use and daily driving. Ferodo Brake Pad Feel, Feedback & Torque Curve DS3.12: Very high mu (coefficient of friction), "grabby" feel, and ultra-consistent torque curve—loved by pros for its predictability. DS1.11: Moderate mu with a slightly declining torque curve under heat. Offers a more progressive feel, especially on street tires. DS2500: Lowest mu of the three. Feels more like a high-performance street pad with smoother torque, great for HPDE and mixed-use driving. Ferodo Brake Pad Manners (Cold Bite, Noise, Dust) DS2500: Best manners of the group. Low noise, moderate dust, and excellent cold bite—perfect for street-to-track use. DS3.12: Low cold bite but quiet when bedded properly. Moderate dust, easy to clean. DS1.11: Noisy when cold, less suitable for street use. Moderate cold performance with reduced disc wear vs. DS3.12. Ferodo Brake Pad Price vs. Value DS3.12: Premium price, but long life and consistency reduce overall cost per mile. DS1.11: Slightly lower cost than DS3.12 with similar longevity. A great value for endurance racers. DS2500: Incredible value as a true dual-purpose pad that rivals many OEM replacements in price while offering track-capable performance. Ferodo Brake Pad Product Highlights Track-proven compounds: DS2500, DS1.11, and DS3.12 trusted by drivers from HPDE to GT racing Fade-resistant up to 1600°F+ with zero performance loss (DS3.12) Endurance-grade wear life with low disc wear and consistent performance Excellent pedal feel and torque modulation across a wide temperature range Made for serious motorsports—from weekend warriors to pro race teams Ferodo Brake Pad Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) 1. Can I daily drive on Ferodo DS2500 brake pads? Yes. The DS2500 offers excellent manners on the street and solid performance on the track, making it a top choice for dual-purpose applications. 2. Is DS3.12 too aggressive for street tires? It can be. DS3.12 has a high mu and strong initial bite, which may activate ABS more frequently with street tires. Best used with slicks or R-compounds. 3. Which Ferodo pad is best for endurance racing? DS3.12 and DS1.11 are both endurance compounds, but DS3.12 offers longer life and more consistent torque at extreme temps. 4. Are Ferodo race pads noisy? DS2500 is very quiet. DS3.12 is relatively silent when bedded properly. DS1.11 can be noisy, especially when cold. 5. What’s the best pad for HPDE beginners? DS2500 is ideal for beginners using street tires and moderate track use. XP8 (from Carbotech) is another great option if more bite is needed. 6. Do Ferodo pads require bedding? Yes. Proper bedding ensures maximum performance, even pad wear, and rotor compatibility. Always follow the Ferodo bedding procedure included with your pads. How to Bed In Ferodo Racing Brake Pads (DS2500, DS1.11, DS3.12) Properly bedding in your Ferodo Racing brake pads ensures optimal performance, pad longevity, and rotor compatibility. Whether you're using Ferodo DS2500 for HPDE or DS3.12 and DS1.11 for professional-level endurance racing, following a structured bedding procedure is critical. Below is a simplified step-by-step chart to guide the break-in process. Step Description 1. Safety First Never perform the following activities on public roads but rather ensure you are in a safe and controlled environment such as a skidpad or racetrack for bedding in.  2. Initial Bedding Heat Cycles Perform 5 moderate stops from 60 mph to 10 mph without engaging ABS. Do not come to a complete stop. Allow light rolling between applications to avoid pad imprinting. 3. Medium Pressure Braking After light bedding, perform 10-15 hard stops from 80 mph to 10 mph using maximum pedal pressure to avoid ABS or locking the tires. Pads should begin to emit some odor and light smoke, indicating proper transfer layer development. 4. Cool-Down Phase Drive for 5 minutes whole minimizing brake use. This allows pads and rotors to cool gradually and evenly, preventing thermal shock and ensuring proper pad bonding. 5. Post-Bedding Rest Let the rest for 24-48 hours if possible. This helps fully cure the pad resins and stabilize the pad compound structure for maximum performance. Important Bedding Tips: Do not come to a complete stop while pads are hot.  Avoid heavy braking with new pads before completing the bedding process.  Always bed in pads and rotors as a matched set (used pads on new rotors or vice versa can cause poor performance).  Proper bedding improves brake modulation, reduces judder, and maximizes the lifespan of your Ferodo racing pads. Whether you run Ferodo DS2500 on the street or DS1.11 or DS3.12 on the track, take time to bed them in right—your braking performance depends on it. Important Note Ferodo Racing Brake Pads are for off-road use only. These products contain copper and are not legal for road use in some regions. It is the buyer’s responsibility to determine legal compliance based on their location.
