Cortex plugs are cut directly from actual Trex deck boards, so the color and grain match exactly, and once installed, the plugs expand and contract along with the surrounding decking, meaning they're built to last the lifetime of the deck without needing replacement. Installation uses a TORX ttap drive system paired with a high-strength setting tool: drive the Cortex screw with the included setting tool to countersink it at the perfect depth, then place the color-matched plug over the fastener hole with the grain aligned and tap it into place. Plugs come pre-aligned on collated strips rather than loose, which speeds up handling and installation by roughly 50% compared to individual plugs, and no pre-drilling is required.
